Gas refrigerant leaks are a serious problem that can have a variety of causes. They are often caused by repeated vibration, corrosion or improper installation, which leads to wear and tear of seals and refrigeration system components, causing micro-leaks.
The effects of leaks are readily apparent: the air conditioning or refrigeration system operates less efficiently, consumes more energy and fails to perform its original function. Finding and repairing leaks are therefore key to restoring proper system operation and protecting the environment from the release of harmful refrigerants into the atmosphere.
EU regulations place responsibilities on refrigeration system technicians and owners, requiring them to ensure proper installation, maintenance and proper operation of equipment. Correct identification of leaks is essential to minimize the impact on climate change and prevent serious system damage that can lead to costly repairs or replacement of the entire system.
