One of the obligations of manufacturers and importers is to market only safe products in the EU. According to Directive 2006/42/EC, the manufacturer or importer must, among other things, inform users in the instruction manual about noise levels emitted by machines.
Another of the obligations of manufacturers and importers of machinery for products placed on the market in the EU is to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of Directive 2000/14/EC for the noise emission of equipment used outdoors.
We are an accredited testing laboratory that conducts individual tests in accordance with generally applicable international standards and methodologies, mainly to determine sound levels and/or sound power levels.
What kind of acoustic tests does COCH conduct?
What devices are being tested?
The tests cover a variety of industrial machinery and equipment, including air conditioners, heat pumps, chillers, dehumidifiers, condensing units and fans. COCH is able to test both small and large equipment under a variety of operating conditions.
What parameters are measured?
During the tests, noise is measured at the operator’s station and in the workspace. In addition, COCH measures the sound power level of machines, which allows an accurate assessment of the noise emitted. These measurements are key to ensuring compliance with workplace noise regulations.
What standards are used during testing?
Acoustic tests carried out by COCH are in accordance with PN-EN and ISO standards on acoustics, which guarantees high quality and reliability of results. These standards include measurements of noise at workplaces and around machinery. You can find a detailed list below the page.
How can a machine be submitted for testing?
To submit a machine or equipment for examination, contact us via the website or by phone. Our specialists will help arrange the details of the test, including the date, scope and technical requirements. It is also possible to obtain individual consultations for specific testing needs.

Badania hałasu emitowanego przez pompy ciepła
One of the key parameters tested during testing for the HP KEYMARK is the noise emitted by the unit. The HP KEYMARK is a prestigious certification awarded to heating equipment, such as heat pumps, that meet stringent quality and performance standards. The noise emitted by the device is measured under various operating conditions to assess its compliance with acoustic requirements. These tests are important to ensure that the units operate quietly and do not cause nuisance to users and the environment.
What devices do we test?
We measure sound pressure level and sound power mainly on the following products:
- Air conditioners, liquid chillers, heat pumps, industrial process chillers and dryers with electrically driven compressors:
- Air conditioners, liquid chillers, heat pumps, for space heating and cooling, dehumidifiers and chillers for industrial processes
- Heat pump water heaters
- other machinery and equipment
We provide independent measurements of noise parameters cited in manufacturers’ promotional materials (e.g., in mandatory product sheets).
We are also able to provide manufacturers with development tests to optimize their product settings.
What parameters do we determine during acoustic testing?
- Noise emitted by the machine at the operator’s station and in the working space for operator movement (sound pressure)
- Calculation of the sound power level of the machine
- Noise emitted by household appliances
- Sound power level of noise sources using intensity probes – measurement by scanning method
Details of the standards used
We perform tests in accordance with European and national standards. Our Laboratory is accredited by the Polish Center for Accreditation, and we perform measurements taking into account the standards:
